Incorruptible and divine beauties,  Tasso described his hometown Sorrento, just lean over to see the sea from one of the many terraces on the gulf to understand the truth of these words. That sea in which according to legend lived the sirens who tried to bewitch Ulysses when it came to these waters in the middle of his wanderings.
Greek city, then roman, submitted to Byzantium and finally to the Duchy then the Normans conquered it, Sorrento tied its fate to that of the Kingdom of Naples until the Unification of Italy when it had a great tourist and commercial development. Today Sorrento is one of the main tourist places of Campania, port  of many cruise ships, a walk through its streets, lanes, with views overlooking the Gulf of Naples is a unique experience as shopping of typical products such as the beautiful cedars of the Sorrento peninsula ,the delicious liqueur “limoncello”and a wide range of handicraft products. From Sorrento you can enjoy a splendid view of the island of Capri, Ischia and the Gulf of Naples and  Vesuvius. The historic centre still retains the old roman layout and the defensive walls of the sixteenth century.
To visit Tasso Square (Piazza Tasso), the Cathedral of the fifteenth century, the Church of St. Francesco of Assisi with its beautiful cloister of the fourteenth century with moorish elements ,the Correale museum that  collects  witnessings of the greek and roman presence, objects of Capodimonte porcelain and a rich collection of paintings and the picturesque fishing village situated at Marina Grande. The numerous hotels, guesthouses, B & B (bed and breakfast)residences and lodgings are able to satisfy all needs. It is impossibile to neglect the great gastronomic tradition in Sorrento and the Sorrento Peninsula in many typical restaurants and pizzerias.
