In 1752 Charles III of Bourbon , needed to establish a representative seat for its own government,   began the building of a palace that would stand comparison with the most famous royal palaces in Europe. However to realize this project he had to move away from Naples, too exposed to serious risk of attacks from the sea. The Royal Palace of Caserta - designed by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli - with its thousands of rooms is one of the masterpieces of the world's artistic heritage since 1997 under the UNESCO protection. The visit to the Royal Palace of Caserta strucks for its beauty, the richness of every detail, the beauty of all decorations and the size of the spaces of the wonderful rooms.
The Palace has known three important periods: the first, in the eighteenth century,  with Charles III of Bourbon, the second with the parthenopean republic in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century ; the third with the brief  napoleonic sovereignty which lasted until the defeat at Waterloo, followed by the return of the Bourbons. The most exclusive room of the Royal Palace of Caserta is the "Throne Room" - the largest of the apartments - with about 600 square metres.
In this room you can admire the splendid floor with geometric designs and rosettes in octagons, in addition to the golden stucco decorations. At the back of the room on a mezzanine floor, there is the Throne, is carved wood, with arms in the shape of winged lions, behind which there are figures of sirens. During the tour you can also visit the immense bedrooms with bathrooms with running water.
The theatre inside the Royal Palace was designed on the ideal scheme of the “San Carlo Theatre”of Naples. Its forty boxes decorated with puttos, flowers and shells, are a splendid frame for the royal box, topped by a big crown, represents the true heart of the whole room. The Royal Palace of Caserta is immersed in a  wonderful park of 120 acres. In the great gardens of this park the royal family used to organize parties.
Waterfalls and fountains enrich lavishly even today its gardens: there is a long waterway of three kilometres for its feeding was built a waterworks .The last suggestiveness of the Royal Palace of Caserta is the "English Garden" which have been rebuilt - with original pieces such as floors, statues and columns - some elements of Pompei.
